About UML and Pioneering Plastic Engineering Programmes

With a rich history dating back to 1954, UMass Lowell's Plastics Engineering program is a leader in its field.

The Lowell Textile School, founded in 1895, adapted to the changing times and transitioned to a broader focus. The plastics program itself started small but grew rapidly due to high demand for skilled professionals. This balanced approach comprising of learning engineering principles with hands-on learning and a strong understanding of materials continues to be the program's hallmark. Students gain a well-rounded education encompassing theoretical knowledge, practical experience in processing and testing, and a solid foundation in plastics materials. UML offers Bachelor of Science, along with Master's and Ph.D. with a research focus. It boasts impressive accreditation since 1977.

UMass Lowell prioritizes keeping the curriculum and labs modern.

They’ve implemented a unique model where they partner with leading corporations to create state-of-the-art facilities dedicated to specific areas of plastics engineering. An Industrial Advisory Board further ensures the program aligns with industry trends and prepares students for future needs. With its commitment to excellence and innovation, UMass Lowell’s Plastics Engineering program is well-positioned to continue shaping the next generation of plastics engineers.
